Upper Sun Canyon Road

October 5-8, the Lewis and Clark County Road Department will install culverts in the roadway of the last 4.9 miles of the Upper Sun Canyon Road, northwest of Augusta. The work is being done as part of the Federal Land Access Project, (FLAP) gravel resurfacing project that will take place after July 15, 2021. During placement of the culverts, one lane of traffic will be maintained. Please be cautious of equipment and workers and obey construction signs.

Federal Land Access Project for Collins Drive, Ferry Drive and Snowdrift Road

Lewis and Clark County will begin a road construction project on Collins Drive, Ferry Drive and a portion of Snowdrift Road next week.

Lewis and Clark County has received $698,502 in Federal Lands Access Program (FLAP) grant money to do surface preservation work on these roads. The County match funding is $93,470 plus in-kind work.

FLAP grants improve roads and bridges that provide access to, are adjacent to, or are located within Federal Lands. The program supplements state and local resources for public roads, transit systems, and other transportation facilities, with an emphasis on high-use recreation sites and economic generators. Collins Drive, Ferry Drive and Snowdrift Road are used to access popular BLM lands.

The project will include the addition of new culverts, reconstruction of ditches, removal of trees in the right of way on Snowdrift between Collins and Ferry, new subgrade preparation, gravel and an application of soil stabilizer. Lewis and Clark County personnel will conduct the culvert, tree removal, ditch and subgrade work beginning this month. Gravel will be hauled and placed in spring/summer 2021.

COVID-19, weather or other unanticipated interruptions could affect these dates.

The County will assume maintenance of these roads when the work is complete.
